On April 30, 2026, Construx Co. President Larry Mason attended the 2026 Building Foundations Breakfast at the Connecticut Convention Center alongside Sarah Wadle, of First Position Media. Hosted by the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, the annual event brought together leaders from the commercial real estate and construction industries to support efforts focused on preventing and reducing homelessness across Greater Hartford.
This year’s event raised an impressive $667,000, continuing the momentum of an initiative that has become a cornerstone event for the region’s building and development community.
Founded in 2021, Building Foundations was created by a coalition of commercial real estate and building industry professionals with the goal of uniting the industry around housing stability and homelessness prevention. What began as a small breakfast with approximately 100 attendees has grown into one of the area’s premier networking and philanthropic events, now welcoming more than 400 professionals annually.
Over the past several years, the event has raised nearly $1.7 million to support programs and services throughout Greater Hartford, including helping more than 2,560 people remain in stable housing, providing emergency shelter accommodations for 928 individuals, supporting United Way 211 information and referral services, and funding tuition for students attending Covenant Preparatory School in Hartford.
The morning featured inspiring remarks from several community and business leaders, including Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Travelers, who was honored with the 2026 Jeffrey Digel Award for his leadership and community impact. During his remarks, Andy encouraged attendees to pay forward the opportunities many have been fortunate to experience—a message that strongly resonated with all.
For Larry and Sarah, the event was also an opportunity to reconnect with longtime business partners and peers throughout the construction and real estate industries. As the event continues to grow each year, it has become much more than a fundraiser—it is now a meaningful networking opportunity that reflects the strength, collaboration, and shared purpose of the building community across Connecticut.
For Larry and the Construx Co. team, events like Building Foundations are a reminder that the relationships built within the industry can make a meaningful difference far beyond the jobsite.
